The Anti-TBR Tag

Today I will be spilling the tea and telling you all the books I do NOT plan on reading. This is all for fun and just because it was fun to write. I am not trying to dis your favorite books or anything. We all have our individual taste and that is what makes reading such a unique and special hobby. Now, with the disclaimer out of the way, let's spill!

1. A popular book EVERYONE loves that you have no interest in reading?

I have so many books that are super popular that I have zero interest in reading. Here's a list!

  • Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

  • The Darkest Mind series by Alexandra Bracken

  • Lore by Alexandra Bracken

  • One to Watch by Kate Sayman-London

  • Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

  • Loveless by Alice Oseman

  • The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones

  • And probably more

2. A classic book (or author) you don’t have an interest in reading?

I do not have an interest in reading Moby Dick because reading a giant book about a whale sounds like a small form of torture. I also don't have an interest in reading Lord of the Rings, The Illiad, The Oddessy, and Oliver Twist.

3. An author whose books you have no interest in reading?

I don't have any interest in reading or attempting to read any Alex North books. To me, they don't sound very interesting and I have seen many lackluster reviews.

4. A problematic author whose books you have no interest in reading?

I honestly do not feel 100% comfortable discussing this just because I don't think I have enough knowledge on this topic.

5. An author you have read a couple of books from & have decided their books are not for you?

I also am not interested in reading any more Christina Lauren books. I have read one and I am not interested in reading anymore. I know that's not "a couple" but I know I don't really want to read any more from her. I have read 2 and a half Karen Slaughter books and I have decided I'm not interested in her books anymore. I tried reading her Will Trent series because I accidentally started collecting the books, however I was super bored by the first half of book one. Pretty Girls by her I felt was overhyped and The Good Daughter, though I would like to reread sometime in my life, wasn't as amazing as I thought it would be.

6. A genre you have no interest in OR a genre you tried to get into & couldn’t?

This one is tricky because I feel like I am a very open-minded reader and I don't like saying I won't read something, however I am least gravitated toward non-fiction. I really don't have any interest in many or really any nonfiction books. I am probably least inclined to pick up memoirs specifically. They just don't interest me and their size usually intimidates me.

7. A book you have bought but will never read?

I actually just did a big unhaul of a bunch of books in this month. I got rid of over 30 books! A few of those titles are The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn, The Darkest Mind series, some Karen Slaughter books, Frankly in Love, Bridge of Clay, Darling Rose Gold, and The Witch Elm, which fun fact, I bought solely because I liked the feel of the hardcover and not at all because I was interested in the book. At least I bought it second hand for only a few dollars.

8. A series you have no interest in reading OR a series you started & have dnf’d?

I will answer both. I have zero interest in the From Blood and Ash series by Jennifer L Armentrout just because of the genre and the fact it has fantasy elements which really doesn't interest me. I also don't plan on reading The Brown Sisters series by Talia Hibbert. This is just the case of it's so hyped up I just don't think I'm interested, if that makes any sense.

A series I started but I am not going to complete, besides the Will Trent series, is The Other Side of the Sky series. I read the first one and was really not into it. The synopsis sounded so cool and I liked the idea behind it, blending fantasy and sci fi, however the story was very bland with nothing really holding my attention.

9. A new release you have no interest in reading?

To clarify, I am going to list books that have not come out yet. For this one, I'll have to go with Every Last Fear by Alex Finlay because one, there has been some controversy surrounding the author and two, I have never had interest in reading it from the start. I am also not interested in reading Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid just because I am not really interested right now in starting this author's books.
